System used to store, query, process, analyse, and visualise geographic data. A GIS will often combine elements of a graphic editor and database management software, and are typically used for either creating map images or for conducting spatial queries or analyses to answer specific research questions. An integrated collection of computer software and data used to view and manage information about geographic places, analyze spatial relationships, and model spatial processes. A GIS provides a framework for gathering and organizing spatial data and related information so that it can be displayed and analyzed.
