Definition
  • An identifier once assigned will never be assigned again to another object. At the level of persistent identifier syntax, this requires management and control also from PID Managers and PID Owners. A prefix (PID syntax component) needs to be also globally unique.
Note
  • EOSC PID Policy is neutral on the practice of more than one PID referring to the same entity. Multiple PIDs may exist for a single entity, and users may use the identifier most suitable for their context. Kernel Information should support understanding of known overlaps through the use of optional SameAs, AlsoKnownAs or KnownAs attributes. However, for example DataCite DOI registration policy demands not to assign a DOI to an identical version of the content if the same content is already published somewhere else with a DOI.
